Having super-soft skin not only feels good to the touch but is very good for you because of the healing benefits you get from removing the dead skin. Making your own homemade body scrub with sugar or sea salt is simple, and in addition to eliminating the high cost of commercial body scrubs, it provides your body with only the best ingredients.

My wife, Chelsea, and I love this scrub in which we include both sugar and salt! We use it a couple of times a week because it keeps our skin in tip-top shape, providing nutrients directly to the epidermis layer along with tons of moisturizing benefits.

Everything you need for your amazing homemade body scrub is easy to find and may be right at home. The mild abrasion found in the grainy-like textures of the sugar and the benefit-rich sea salt, along with the nutrients found in the all of the ingredients, will leave your skin supple and super-soft to the touch while giving it the extra moisturizing and glow your skin craves.

If you’re dealing with keratosis pilaris, this scrub will help remove dead skin and unplug skin follicles. You will love this DIY recipe that provides a refreshing feeling all over your body.

How to Make A Homemade Body Scrub

To start, get your skin-glowing ingredients ready. You will need a small ceramic or glass bowl, a 1/4 measuring cup, measuring spoons, a regular spoon and an 8-ounce glass jar or larger.

Next, measure out each ingredient listed below and have them handy. Our homemade body scrub is made up of a gritty texture that comes from the sugar and salt. That texture helps slough off the dead skin that accumulates on your body causing to look dull and dry and the minerals from the sea salt can be absorbed into the skin.

Let’s begin by combining the ingredients. Place the sugar and sea salt into the bowl and blend well with a spoon.

Next, let’s add the skin-enhancing coconut oil, which will provide amazing smoothness to your skin while helping pull out the impurities. Blend well.

Then let’s add the honey to give you anti-aging antioxidants, helping your skin to have a more youthful appearance from a beautiful glow. Simply add the honey and blend well.

Next up, let’s add the shea butter, which is thick, so make sure to blend well. Shea butter is loaded with vitamin E and vitamin A, both of which are great for your skin.

Work in the jojoba oil, one of the premiere carrier oils. It acts as a moisturizer for the skin and will protect it from the dryness of the cold temperatures as well as provide great moisturizing after being in the sun. Jojoba oil also keeps oil levels within the skin well balanced.

Once that is all well blended, add the drops of peppermint oil and blend one last time. Peppermint oil will provide a cooling sensation and relieve sore muscles.

Next, transfer to a small glass jar with a lid and label it. You can store it in the fridge to help preserve it. Just let it sit out for about 10 minutes prior to use so that it can soften.

How to Use

Now for the fun! To bring out that glowing skin, let’s exfoliate. Exfoliating the skin using this DIY body scrub will provide much-needed hydration. (Try our sugar scrub for the face, stretch mark scrub and DIY lip scrub, too. Two other natural exfoliators include the pumice stone and dry brushing.)

While in the shower, simply apply a small amount with your fingertips or washcloth to the skin one section at a time. Gently massage in a circular motion, for about 10–15 seconds starting at the feet, then the hands, working towards the heart making sure to cover your entire body.

Rinse and pat dry or air dry so that you do not remove all of the moisturizing benefits. Enjoy the feeling of your amazingly soft skin and use the once or twice a week for best results!
